Friday night is perfect for dinner and a movie. And for two Berks County families they were celebrating the premier of an action film. The writers of "Olympus Has Fallen" graduated from Boyertown High School and Exeter High School.
"Olympus Has Fallen" is packed with action and movie stars. But two not so famous people from Berks County were at its Hollywood premier.
"They had their red carpet last Monday and they looked awesome," said Sigga Benedikt Sodttir, "Oh my God they looked beautiful both of them."
Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger said to have one of their screenplays hit the big screen is a thrill.
"We sacrificed a lot. We literally gave up everything," said Katrin Benedikt by phone, "We had a house in Pennsylvania we sold. We lived off the proceeds of that. We lived off our savings."
"They took everything and put into it," Benedikt Sodttir said, "They were on their last dime when it happened."
Sigga Benedikt Sodttir is Katrin's mom and she said she never doubted after five years of waiting she would see her daughter and son-in-law's work.
"We talked about it many times and we always said, 'Yes, it's going to happen. It's going to happen. We know it's going to happen,'" said Benedikt Sodttir.
And Katrin's brother Marco Soto agreed.
"Their ability and their drive prepared them to be in the right position," said Soto.
Friday night family and friends celebrated the local couple, Katrin an Exeter High School grad and Creighton a Boyertown High School grad.
"We both have a lot of family and friends in the area," said Benedikt.
"We did it, they did it and it's like awesome," said Benedikt Sodttir.
And they couldn't be prouder.
"You don't have a lot people making it big out of Berks County. They did," said Benedikt Sodttir.
The couple felt badly they couldn't be at the Reading event. But they are already hard at work on other projects. And there will most likely be premiers like this one again.
