ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A local teenager is celebrating her birthday by flying solo.

Gwendolyn Herman turned 16-years-old Tuesday. That's how old you have to be to fly a plane on your own, and she did just that at the Queen City Airport in Allentown.

Gwendolyn said she had been training for the moment for about a year.

"A lot of practice. A lot of coming out a few days a week. Hours and hours have been put in, you know, yelling back and forth with my instructor," she said.

Gwendolyn said she'll keep training, so she can go for her pilot's license when she's 17, and she said she hopes to eventually turn the hobby into a career.
