POTTSTOWN, Pa. -

It took a week of repairs, but a Montgomery County nuclear power plant is back up to full power.

Operators manually shut down the unit 1 reactor at the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant in Pottstown July 18 after an electrical problem.

In keeping with NRC procedures, company officials declared an "unusual event" at 8:39 a.m. It was terminated at 9:46 a.m.

Unit 1 returned to full power around 5 p.m. Wednesday after replacement and testing of an electrical transformer.

With both units at full power, Exelon's Limerick nuclear power plant can produce enough carbon-free electricity to power around two million homes.
