Life Lessons: How to sell your home
Spring is traditionally a busy time for the real estate market with lots of folks looking to buy and to sell.
If you will be putting your house on the market, realtors say there are a few things you can do to get a buyer in the shortest time for the highest price.
The Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors is hoping this will be a great season for the housing market.
Therese Kelley, president of the Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors and an agent with Croslis Realty, recently toured a 3-bedroom Cape Cod for sale in Bethlehem.
She says this house is a great example of a house that shows well.
"The most important thing is that they've kept it clean and simple. They don't have a lot of stuff around," Kelley says.
From the kitchen to the bedrooms to the living room, everything is put away.
A family of four lives at the house along with a dog, but Kelley says you'd hardly know it.
"They've done a good job organizing their stuff so it is neat and people aren't thinking, 'oh my goodness there's no room in here,'" she says.
Kelley pointed out the clean countertops in the kitchen, the simplicity of the dining room and the placement of the furniture.
She says fix what needs to be fixed, price your home right and put yourself in a buyer's shoes.
"As a homeowner you should start in the front of your home and walk in, tour your home and see each room as if you were looking to buy a house. How does this look? Look at it through your buyer's eyes."
And before that first buyer comes to visit, Kelley says scrub your house as clean as you can.
Make sure there are no outstanding odors and consider freshening the bathrooms with things like new shower curtains and towels.
