Lehigh/Northampton Co - Bethlehem Street Closures

Published On: Aug 10 2011 09:55:02 PM CDT

-The contractor for the proposed Charter School at 3rd Street and Polk Street will need to close a lane on Polk Street, Tuesday through Thursday, September 16-18, between 3rd Street and Columbia Street.  Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic.  On Thursday and Friday, September 18-19, the contractor will need to close 3rd Street to one lane with flaggers between Polk Street and Taylor Street.  This work will occur between 9am and 3pm.

-As part of the SR 412 construction, Emery Street will be closed beginning Monday, September 8, after 9am between SR412 and Spillman Drive.  This work is to reconstruct and widen the intersection, as well as for utility work.  The closure is expected to last approximately 3 weeks (September 30).

All traffic entering and exiting the industrial park will need to utilize Lynn Avenue.

As of right now, left turns onto Lynn Avenue are not permitted; however, with the closure of Emery, a left turn lane will be created on SR412 for vehicles to turn left into the industrial park.  Due to the high volumes entering the park during the morning period, Police Officers will be onsite at Lynn Avenue to manually operate the signals from 7am-9am.

Backups are possible at times on eastbound Daly Avenue between Lynn Ave and the Minsi Trail Bridge, so please be prepared for slowing traffic through the area.

-The County will be replacing the bridge on Macada Rd over the Monocacy Creek and will need to close Macada Rd to through traffic between Center Street and Jacksonville Road beginning Monday, August 11.  Local residents will have access to their homes; however, vehicles will not be able to pass over the bridge.  The work is expected to last until approximately September 30, 2014.  A full detour will be posted which will consist of US22, as Bridle Path Rd has a weight restriction.

-Due to recent inspection results, the High Street Bridge to Hellertown will be closed immediately. Please be aware that due to the prior closing of the Seidersville Road bridge by Northampton County, there will no longer be thru traffic from Ravena Street or High Street. Signs, barricades, etc. have been installed to warn traffic of the closure. The City has been actively pursuing replacement of the High Street Bridge; however, until the replacement, alternate routes shall be taken.
