Lehigh County's Leaser Lake finally reopening

Lehigh County is lake-less no more. Leaser Lake, the county's one and only lake, was drained years ago for a repair project.
But the lake will re-open to fishermen on Saturday.
Lee Cryer of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission showed us seemingly random rocks yet to be covered by water. He say they are part of a sophisticated plan to reintroduce fish into Lynn Township's, Leaser Lake.
"Bass, bluegill, crappy, catfish," he spouted off.
And rainbow trout. Saturday marks the first time in years anglers can stand ashore and cast a line for trout fishing.
"It's been a long time, people are so much anticipating this lake," Creyer said.
The 117 acre lake, named after the man who saved the Liberty Bell during the Revolutionary War, was drained in 2009. The lakes dam had to be fixed, and it wasn't an easy patch job. So instead, the whole thing was replaced. The water started creeping back in November.
It is reason to celebrate for those inside Wanamakers General Store. Owner Arian Hungaski says the store, less than mile from the lake, has struggled. She's hopeful that will change with a full lake once again.
"I am excited personally. I like to kayak and my husband and kids like to fish," she said.
So too does Steve Weigle. He just bought his fishing license.
"Going to give a lot of people a chance to fish locally. I fished there before a lot," he said.
Water levels are expected to hit shore by mid May marking a new lease on recreation at Leaser lake.
