CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -

A Lehigh County company is taking up a worthy cause: colorectal cancer awareness.

Olympus is promoting Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month this March.

They are the leading manufacturer of colonoscopy equipment used to diagnose and treat colorectal cancer.

This year, 2014, marks the 15th year the event has been recognized.

Experts say it's important to pay attention to the disease.

"Colorectal cancer is actually the second-leading cause of cancer deaths for men and women combined in the United States," said Rick Harbuck, the vice-president of Olympus' endoscopy division.

Doctors say early prevention is key to treating the disease.

Anyone over the age of 50 should be screened.

Doctors say the procedure is very simple and minimally invasive.
