Last minute shoppers brave the snow
While most people spent the night before Christmas at home or church, some were praying to the retail gods. Last-minute shoppers braved the snow to find stores that were still open.
Not even slick roads kept the faithful away.
"It was fine a minute ago," said Nicholas Baez of Allentown. "We walked out of Walmart and it just started snowing out of nowhere.
Despite the forecast, the flakes caught a few by surprise.
"I didn't think it was going to snow today, to tell you the truth," said Jay Rivera of Allentown. "It just started last minute."
While most shoppers crossed off their Christmas lists over the weekend, a few holdouts hit the Kmart on South Fourth Street in Allentown, which stayed open until 10 p.m.
"I actually called ahead to find out because I thought they were closing earlier," said Delores Rice of Allentown.
So why do people wait just hours before Old Saint Nick arrives to hit the stores?
"I work on Friday late, so I only have Saturday and Sunday to finish," said Roberta Mancia of Allentown. "And Monday."
And just what are people looking for on Christmas Eve night?
"Pajamas for the kids, for tomorrow morning," said Rivera. "So they can wake up to it."
Rice actually finished her shopping days ago, but came back for more.
"I mainly came in to look for a pair of shoes for my husband, but they didn't have them, so I got a few things more for the grandchildren," she said.
Sylvia Jimenez was on her second stop of the night, after striking out at another store.
"They didn't have too many games in there for the Playstation," she said.
Jimenez said, if Kmart didn't have it, maybe "you-know-who" would bring it overnight.
