A Bethlehem war veteran received some long-overdue medals Friday.

Army veteran Charles Cope was honored in a ceremony for medals he earned decades ago.

Cope's family gathered at Representative Steve Samuelson's office to watch Cope receive three medals he earned during and after his time in the Korean War.

Cope says he never received two of the medals due to a mistake with his paperwork and he lost the third.

Two medals recognized his service in the army. The third was for his pistol skills.

Cope says the medals were worth the wait.

"Great, as a matter of fact, makes me feel real good. Something I didn't expect," said Charles Cope.

Cope says he plans to give the medals to his grandsons so they'll have something to remember him by.
