How do hurricanes form?

In order for hurricanes to form the air must be flowing over very warm ocean water of 80°F or warmer.

On top of the warm water the atmosphere or the air must cool off very quickly the higher up you go.

In addition winds should be blowing in the same direction and at the same speed to force air upward away from the ocean surface.

Above the storm the winds flow outward to allow the air to rise below.

A hurricane typically develops between 5 to 15 degrees latitude north and south of the equator.

At these latitudes the Coriolis Force is strong enough to create the spin in the hurricane.

As you get closer to the equator the Coriolis Force becomes too weak to form the hurricane, therefore hurricanes can never form at the equator.
