LIMERICK TWP., Pa. -

A burglary in Montgomery County resulted in a surprise for both the would-be thief and the homeowner.

A resident of the 100 block of Benner Road in Limerick Township came home around 12:30 p.m. Thursday to find a pillowcase inside the front door, police said.

The resident then heard noises coming from a rear bedroom on the first floor and subsequently found a man ransacking the room, police said.

The confronted crook escaped by diving out a window that he had forced open to get inside the home, police said.

Investigators said they are following several leads in the case, but they declined to be specific. They did say that initial reports of the burglar being armed with a gun he took from the homeowner turned out to be false.
