Herb's Hobbies and Crafts closing

"Hard work you wouldn't do for a living." It's the motto of hobby enthusiasts.
However a Bucks County mecca for all-things-creative is throwing its customers a curve ball.
For Herb's Hobbies and Crafts business has been booming. Shelves inside the Doylestown, Bucks County store are stark.
"Beyond our wildest expectations," owner Herbert Hess said.
However, it's too little too late.
"It's been my whole life for 35 years," Hess said.
A life Hess has sold. The day after Christmas he made the painful decision to close the store.
"So much is available online these days. It is sad losing local resource like Herb's," customer John Shepherd said.
The store has been catering to the creative class since Herbert's father started the business in 1972.
Model trains expanded into model tanks, boats, anything and everything a hobby enthusiasts heart could want.
"I've had four children and they've all bought their supplies here too," longtime store shopper Anna Williams shared.
Competition from the Internet and the economic downturn took its toll. Herb has until the end of February to close up shop.
For customers like Lauren Collins, the store's closing is the end of an era.
"I grew up here and now my kids are asking for hand art and I don't know how I will tell them I'm not hear anymore," she said.
The irony of the past two weeks isn't lost on Herb. He's already preparing for something he's never had to: a job interview.
"It's exciting. [I'm] ready for something new. Thirty-five years of retail is enough," he said.
