Demonstrators across Pennsylvania are pushing for tougher background checks for gun purchases.
The Lehigh Valley chapter of Organizing for Action held a rally Wednesday afternoon at U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent's office in Allentown.
They called on Dent to co-sponsor the House version of the bill introduced by U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey and Sen. Joe Manchin. It would expand background checks to include purchases at gun shows and over the Internet.
The group said Dent has promised he would vote in favor of the legislation, but they want him to co-sponsor it.
"Without enough co-sponsors, it's never going to come to the floor for a vote," said Fritz Walker, Organizing for Action.
Dent said he has supported the Toomey-Manchin legislation since the beginning.
Wednesday's rally in Allentown was part of the statewide "Hands Across Pennsylvania" event. More than a dozen rallies were held simultaneously across the state.
