A gubernatorial candidate and former head of Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection says the Chrin Landfill should be shut down.

WILLIAMS TWP., Pa. -

A gubernatorial candidate and former head of Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection says the Chrin Landfill should be shut down.

John Hanger was at the Williams Township Municipal Building in Northampton County addressing the issue Friday.

Hanger says the recent landslide at the landfill compromised some of its critical components.

He says there needs to be a thorough investigation into whether a sinkhole may be the underlying cause.

Officials with the DEP say an investigation into what happened is being completed.

They say the landfill does not need to be closed because the landslide happened in a closed section.

DEP officials also say a geologist was on site this week and found the land to be sound.

The DEP will then compare its report with a report done by Chrin and make a final determination on what happened.
