Giant offers delivery of online grocery orders

How would you like to do your grocery shopping on your couch? Giant is joining the list of grocery stores that's making it possible.
"Not one of my favorite things to do. Got this list from my wife." said shopper Mike Brunner after being asked if he liked grocery shopping.
But what if you didn't have to?
"It would be convenient," said Oriane Rembalsky, another shopper.
The Giant Food Store in Coopersburg, Lehigh Co., is now giving shoppers the option of not only skipping the checkout line but the entire store altogether.
"We actually shop the order for you and deliver to your home." said Chris Brand, of Giant.
Giant has partnered with online grocer Peapod. The program works like this:
Go to Peapod.com and set up an account. Once you've shopped, you can schedule a next-day delivery time. Giant employees then gather your goods in a separate warehouse.
The Coopersburg store delivers to about 25 zip codes from Quakertown to Doylestown.
To have your groceries loaded up in the truck and delivered to your home, it will cost between $8 and $10.
In this hyper competitive grocery store environment, Giant said its service is a must.
Weis Market, at 365 S Cedar Crest Blvd. in Allentown, was the first in the Lehigh Valley to offer online shopping and pickup several years ago.
The nearby Wegmans recently added a pub and expanded beer section, all in an effort to snag as many shoppers as possible.
"Up to us to provide groceries for them whenever and wherever they want us to go," Brand said.
But for those like Candy Rejician, all the technology in the world can't replace the tradition of trekking through the aisles.
"I'd rather pick out my own stuff," she said.
