Some people in Northampton say they have a heavy heart because they no longer have their little "ball of fire."
On Sunday, Gage Sramek, 4, was struck and killed by an SUV.
His family says they are trying to stay strong.
Many people walking by the accident scene are still in disbelief that this tragic accident took place.
They say it will be a rough holiday season.
It's calm on the street. Children are running in the background just feet away from a parking lot where Gage Sramek usually played.
“He was just a little kid with a huge heart," said Cody Phillips, Gage's uncle. "He loved everyone. He wanted to play with everyone, watch Sponge Bob.”
Now a memorial grows for the child who died so young.
“Everyone is taking it extremely, extremely hard," said Jared Siegfried, another uncle of Gage. "Everyone loved that little kid.”
On Sunday, Gage's family says he was out playing with his 6-year-old brother and other children in the neighborhood.
“She was driving a higher Explorer and didn't see him because he is tiny and ran him over on accident," said Siegfried. "It's a tragic accident but it's what it was."
The coroner has ruled the death an accident.
Family members say the only question they can ask, is Why?
“He usually plays right here in the parking lot, but I don't know why they were up here on the street,” said Phillips.
Family members say they are going to miss the guy they had so many nicknames for.
“Peanut, Bubba, baby Gage," said Siegfried. "Everybody called him something different. Happy go lucky kid. Everybody loved him.”
They say it will also be hard to celebrate Christmas knowing Gage will not be around.
“Our ball of fire is gone," said Siegfried. "So we have to keep him in our hearts and know that he's with us.”
Family members tell us that Gage's brother is really having a tough time because he witnessed the accident.
