Good afternoon, and Happy Friday. In the news:
SPRUCED UP TERMINAL OPENS AT LVIA:
Officials are showing off a newly-renovated terminal at Lehigh Valley International Airport. Passenger ticketing areas are re-done; elevators and escalators, too. Other improvements have also been made. And officials say it could all boost service and passenger traffic, and could attract new airlines. WFMZ’s Jaccii Farris has the full story at 6:00 tonight.
SURPRISE DIP IN JOBLESS RATE:
Good news on the jobs front, and some experts didn’t see it coming. The U.S. unemployment rate has hit 7.8 percent – under 8 percent for the first time in almost four years. The Labor Department says employers added 114,000 jobs last month. President Obama says the report shows the nation has “come too far to turn back now.” Mitt Romney says the president still hasn’t done enough to create new jobs. Stories starting at 5:00.
ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, THEN ARREST:
Police say a man was arrested moments after trying to rob an insurance office in Spring Township, Berks County this morning. They say the holdup attempt happened at 10:45 a.m. at a State Farm office on Penn Avenue, committed by a man wearing a black ski mask and armed with pepper spray. Police say he ran off after hearing 911 being called. Officers caught the man behind the Ranch House restaurant. Stories at 5:30 and 6:00.
