Snow comes through the area

READING, Pa. -

Snow that touched down in our region on Saturday certainly made it the perfect day to stay inside and grab a hot chocolate. Area roads were slick, but that didn't stop people from venturing outside to enjoy their snow day.

It was a picturesque winter day on Saturday in the Lehigh Valley and Berks County. The snowfall was enjoyable to many.

"I'm enjoying it. It's my favorite time of year," said Tim Allen of Allentown.

"I think that it's pretty exciting and we're lucky that it's sticking because now we can make snowballs and forts and stuff like that," said Will Lotto of Bethlehem.

Throughout the course of the day, salt was laid along the sidewalks and roads. Allen stated that snow-filled weekends are filled with many activities to keep oneself occupied.

"Going to do some skiing and some window shopping here in Bethlehem," said Allen.

"I'm going to test out this snow scooter...it's like a snowboard except with a handle," said Lotto.

With snow; however, Reading resident Thomas Smith stated, road conditions in many areas were dangerous. That is why, he stated, he was not enjoying the weather.

"It's kind of slippery," said Smith.

Across the region, roads were slushy and icy. Car congestion on the roads in the city of Reading  were relatively normal. That was not the case further north. A tractor trailer accident on Route 33 in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County occurred Saturday morning. Also, drivers were sliding on roads in Fountain Hill, Lehigh County.

Bloomsburg resident Donna Schu stated that she and her family were happy to be off the roads and spending the weekend walking around the city of Bethlehem.

"It's actually very pretty if you don't have to drive in it. It took us an hour and a half to get here and traffic was a little touch and go for a while. We're ready to be snowed in for a day, that's fine," said Schu.
