Pennsylvania lawmakers are joining dozens of others to support legislation introduced to protect military retirement benefits.

Pennsylvania lawmakers are joining dozens of others to support legislation introduced to protect military retirement benefits.

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick has introduced bill HR 3788, which would amend the Bipartisan Budget Act.

Congressman Lou Barletta is a co-sponsor of the bill.

The bill would protect military retirees from cuts to cost-of-living adjustments that were included in the bipartisan budget deal.

"While there's plenty of positive pieces of that bipartisan budget agreement, the aspect that deals with cost of living adjustments in the future for veterans of the U.S. military was less than desirable. I would say unfair," said Mike Fitzpatrick.

Representative Allyson Schwartz is backing a similar bill called the Military Retirement Restoration Act.

If Congress leaves the retirement cuts in place, veterans under age 62 would see the reductions beginning in December 2015.
