Emmaus firefighters help family

EMMAUS, Pa. -

Emmaus firefighters went above and beyond Saturday to help out two struggling families who lost everything in a fire.

It broke out on New Year's Eve at a twin home on East Main Street.

Officials say the families lost everything, and one girl was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

Saturday, firefighters collected donations of clothes, toiletries and more to help out the families.

"We don't typically have fires that destroy borough homes the way it did, and again, the one home, there was an 11-year-old girl who lost her dog in the fire, so for us the whole story kind of touches our hearts and we want to be able to give back to these families and help out as best we can," said Captain Matt Hahn of the department.

The donation drive runs through 3 p.m. Saturay at the firehouse on North Sixth Street in Emmaus.  But officials said if you're interested in helping, you can drop off donations any time at the firehouse.

There's also an account for the families set up at Wells Fargo bank for monetary donations.
