The Northampton Borough Council discussed several financial changes and important dates at their meeting on Thursday night.
Council received its estimate for the 2013 Liquid Fuels Allotment. The estimate is set at $188,836.82, which is more than $8,000 less than this year’s allotment.
The Borough also recently received its recycling grant money for last year. The grant money was in the amount of $15,653. Council also received the pension state aid check in the amount of $153,772.72.
According to Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Sr., this amount is $14,272.72 more than the Council anticipated. Lopsonzski informed the public that the excess money would be divided into equal portions and deposited in both the uniform and non-uniform pension plans.
Council also informed the public of important upcoming dates for the Borough residents. On October 6, Northampton County will sponsor a household hazardous waste recycling event at Northampton Community College.
Lopsonzski reminded the audience that they will not be accepting latex paint, only oil-based paint and stain. Also taking place on October 6 is the Recreation Center’s annual 5K race that will start on Lerchenmiller Drive.
The Jack Frost Parade will be held on October 18 and Council members were encouraged to participate by riding in the Borough van. Council also established October 31 as Trick or Treat night in the Borough from 6-8 p.m.
Council also mentioned that there will be a fire prevention Open House on October 10 which will be sponsored by the Fire Department and be held at the Fire Station.
Northampton Fire Chief Robert Solderich informed Council that there will be a multitude of activities for families and children to do at the Open House.
According to Solderich, the Fire Department will also be cutting a car apart and the Police Department will be doing fingerprinting and bring the K9 unit to the event.
