The weather may be cold and snowy, but baseball fans are already thinking about the arrival of the boys of summer.
Single game tickets for the Reading Fightin Phils's upcoming season went on sale at FirstEnergy Stadium at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Fans who turned out said they're ready for the start of the season.
"It's the start of the whole season," said Bob Bechtel. "It's part of spring when everything's coming alive again and the excitement coming out of the Reading Phillies. It's the best entertainment in all of Reading."
This year, the Fightin Phils have added a twist to their first-day ticket sales with a promotion called "Win FirstEnergy Stadium for a Day." Anyone who buys a ticket online, over the phone or at the ballpark on Wednesday will be entered in the contest.
The grand prize winner, along with 50 guests, will be treated to an all-you-can-eat buffet and open bar on the pool pavilion. They'll also have access to the field, video scoreboard and public address system.
"For the first time in our storied history, we're handing the keys of FirstEnergy Stadium to a member of our passionate fan base," said Scott Hunsicker, the team's general manager. "All you need to do is purchase any type of tickets for the 2013 season -- single-game, mini-plan, or group tickets -- on Wednesday to be entered for this priceless opportunity."
The Fightin Phils will open their season on the road in New Haven on Apr. 4. The home opener at FirstEnergy Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Apr. 12 against Erie.
Tickets for Philadelphia Phillies also went on sale Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park.
Tickets for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in Allentown will go on sale March 2.
