Father working to make schools safer after Sandy Hook

MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. -

A national tragedy inspired a father to take action to make schools safer.

George Tunis works to make armored U.S. military vehicles, but after 26 people were shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in December, he decided to combine armor and white boards.

Hardwire Armor System showed off the shields at a shooting range in Muhlenberg Township, Berks County Tuesday.

The company's goal is to have bullet proof shields available in schools, just like fire extinguishers.

Representatives from 10 police departments and several schools were also on hand for the demonstration.
