Ed Hanna is the chief meteorologist for WFMZ-TV Channel 69 News and the AccuWeather Channel. He can be seen weeknights (on 69 NEWS) at 5:00 pm, 5:30 pm, 10:00 pm and 10:30 pm (Ed can also be seen many weeknights on the AccuWeather Channel). Joining the WFMZ news team in March 1996, Ed loves the weather! He designed and co-founded the AccuWeather Channel....WFMZ's ALL LOCAL weather channel (the first in the USA!). The channel can be seen on WFMZ-DTV channel 46, Service Electric channel 20, RCN channel 12, Blue Ridge Digital Channel 226, Comcast Digital 247 and around the world on our Web site .....24 hours a day....7 days a week.....365 days a year!

In the past, Ed has been voted Best Weathercaster in Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Associated Press. He is a full member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Associations. Ed graduated from Messiah College in 1986 and completed the Broadcast Meteorology Program from Mississippi State University in 2001.

Besides "weather", Ed is well known for his involvement with elementary school children throughout eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey. In his program, (Weather, News & You) Ed has visited two elementary schools each week (during the school year). The program started in January 1999. Since that time, Ed has spoken with thousands of elementary school children. While he likes to teach the children weather basics...his real passion is to "inspire" them to: listen to their teachers, give ALL the effort they have on ALL their assignments, and most importantly...KEEP READING!!! The program has always been a lot of fun for teachers, principals, parents and students alike. Ed designed the weather exhibit at the DaVinci Science Center in Allentown (on the Cedar Crest College campus). Recently, Ed has been presenting his school program at the center with a high-energy interactive weather program for students touring the center on particular days (call the center for details).

Ed has co-hosted the Emmy winning Freddy Awards at the State Theatre in Easton since 2004 (along with friend Shelley Brown). This "Tony-like-awards program" is designed to recognize and reward exceptional accomplishments in the production and performance of musical theatre in local high schools. The Freddys (which is always broadcast LIVE on 69 WFMZ) has become one of Ed's favorite annual events!

During a past winter storm, Ed appeared on CNN. The international network asked Ed to give a local perspective of the 13 inch blanket of snow that affected eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey.

Each year, Ed hosts parades, speaks to large groups and participates in many local activities. His work with local charities has included: Easter Seals, American Cancer Association, American Lung Association, Mercy Learning Center, March of Dimes, Sacred Heart Hospital and others.

When not at the station, Ed loves spending quality time with his family and friends. They enjoy activities including boating, skiing, sports, fishing and theater.
