Dozens of trees fall on Lynn Township resident's property
Storm clean-up continues throughout our region, but you won't believe the massive mess at one family's home in Northwest Lehigh County.
Like a lot of people, Ron Milisits is clearing away downed trees after Hurricane Sandy.
"You're looking at one big, big mess," he said.
But he's probably dealing with a few more trees than you are.
"Oh, there's at least 50 or 60 of them down," he said. "I don't know; I can't count."
Milisits' house is completely surrounded by downed trees -- trees that came down like dominoes, one after another for two hours, on Monday night.
"A lot of crashing, a lot of shaking, stuff falling off the walls," he said.
Milisits' wife, Carol, said it was a nerve-wracking night.
"I wasn't afraid of dying, but I was afraid of getting trapped in the house," she said.
For now, at least, the Milisits are trapped. They can barely even walk out their back door.
"There's no access to get off our property, because there are trees literally laying everywhere," she said.
It's hard to imagine a silver lining here, but consider this. This house, surrounded and buried under trees, didn't suffer a scratch. Either did the Milisits' birdhouse, which is also unscathed.
"You just pray a lot, and it gets you through," said Carol. "That's why my house looks like this, and it's in one piece."
The family hopes to get a crane out soon to lift the trees off the house, but cleaning this whole mess up will take time -- a long time.
"Months, I would think months," said Carol.
But after Monday night's harrowing ordeal, they're just happy to be alive.
"I'd say somebody was looking out for us," said Ron.
