A project to renovate Baer Park in northwest Reading is now complete.
Baseballtown Charities and the Reading Fightin Phils organized the effort, made possible through nearly $90,000 in donations from Colonial Oaks Foundation, the Wyomissing Foundation and private donors.
"We are anxious to see the kids and parents enjoy the improvements starting this spring," said Chuck Domino, president, Baseballtown Charities.
Volunteers installed new bleachers and a chain-link fence and completed major field renovations.
"The new turf, fencing, bleachers, and field improvements will be the catalyst for future baseball programming at the park and hopefully marks the beginning of the revitalization of the northwest Reading community," said Daphne Klahr, executive director, Reading Recreation Commission.
Work on the park started in May. Officials with the Fightin Phils and Baseballtown Charities said the park was in dire need of repairs.
