Cold snap could hurt retailers

The battle lines are being drawn between small businesses and Mother Nature as yet another snow storm heads our way.
With so little time left in the holiday shopping season, store owners are hoping their bottom line won't be buried by the snow.
Another snow storm is the last thing small businesses in West Reading need as they try to cash in on the already short holiday season. The third snow storm this week has management at Holistic SkateShop concerned.
The owner of Holistic SkateShop, J.D. Turner said, "This past weekend's been pretty rough, just cause the snow happens, you have a lot of accident."
And then you have shoppers who want nothing to do with the bad weather. People usually just want to stay indoors as Eric Angeles said, I'm just going to relax. I won't be out in the snow. I'll be relaxing on Saturday. Greg Caterman echoed, "I'm not looking forward to the weather at all. I don't want to deal with it.
But the snow may be no match for the store 1 UP collectibles. Management says clients have already called to say they will be at the store for events on Saturday.
Lee Umberger, owner of 1Up Collectibles said, "My clientele has no problems coming out in the snow. It's the rain that bothers them."
However, the situation is much more concerning at Ady Cakes. Despite being an award-winning baker, taking home the top prize at the Food Networks CupCake Wars, the owner says all that won't stop the snow.
The owner said, "we do have orders for pick-up so hopefully people are not going to come and cancel the orders. There's birthday parties."
To make matters worse, the grand opening of her second location in Lititz, Lancaster County was supposed to happen Saturday. But now she says, "It's up in the air, we're really pushing through it."
It still remains to be seen what will happen with the snow, but it's clear that many businesses are hoping that Mother Nature won't be the Grinch that steals their Christmas.
