Before the holiday shopping comes the holiday eating for most families.
One Allentown church group has made it its mission to make sure others have a Happy Thanksgiving, no matter what their circumstance.
People were unloading turkeys early in Tuesday afternoon anticipating the joy they would see on a lot of people's faces.
"This is why I am here," said senior pastor Jimmie Rivera. "It's not just to preach a sermon on Sundays or on Wednesday nights, but it's to be able to meet people and meet their children. Meet the family and to make sure that somebody's belly is full and that they leave happy."
As the hours went on, the line at the front door increased.
Some people waited in line five hours before the doors opened.
"This is more than just a Thanksgiving meal for me," said Angela Cromer from Allentown. "This is a meal right now. This turkey is not even getting to Thanksgiving -- it's like right now."
"A lot of people are struggling through everything," added another woman standing in line. "It's nice that they give away free turkeys for everybody. I walked all the way from Ninth street about eight blocks away."
"We're not doing that well after the hurricane and all that," said David Sanchez from Allentown.
Inside there were songs, performances, and the most important message: hope.
"God has blessed us with more and more and more," said Beverly Fekula, another pastor at City Limits. "And the only reason I can think of is that he must really love you."
Once the crowd got an encouraging word, then it was time to get the meal. It's a complete turkey dinner with all the fixings.
"Thank you, God bless you, it's wonderful that you are doing this for everybody in this community," said one woman.
Five hundred meals were given out.
"God bless them for helping us out," added Sanchez.
Help that members of City Limits say they are honored to give.
