TOBYHANNA, Pa -

A high school teacher in the Poconos has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy.

Pocono Mountain regional police arrested Christopher Martinelli on Tuesday at his home at 1193 Arbutus Dr. in Tobyhanna Twp., Monroe Co.

Martinelli, 40, was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors. The charges, police said, stem from a sexual relationship Martinelli had with a 15-year-old boy in 2011.

Martinelli is currently a 10th grade social studies teacher at Pocono Mountain West High School in Pocono Summit.

Police interviewed the victim, who is now 17, and he described the sexual relationship to investigators.

The victim told detectives he first met Martinelli when he was the boy's 8th grade teacher, but the sexual relationship didn't start until two years later, police said.

Martinelli was involved with several youth organizations and is currently a youth baseball coach, police said.

The school district has suspended Martinelli, and he's been banned from any school district property.

Martinelli was also instructed not to have any contact with any students, parents or staff while the investigation is ongoing, said police, who are asking anyone with information to contact the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department.
