U.S. Sen. Bob Casey says efforts to fight Reading's crime problem are well under way.

READING, Pa. -

U.S. Sen. Bob Casey says efforts to fight Reading's crime problem are well under way.

Casey stopped at Berks Encore in Reading on Friday to promote two tax credits. Berks Encore offers free help to taxpayers during the tax season.

Casey also gave an update on the crime summit that was held in Berks County in January.

"I think there's no question that, over time, when you have federal authorities, state and county and municipal authorities and resources that are shared between those different levels of government, you see a stronger effort," Casey said.

The crime summit was held in response to last year's rise of violent crime.
