Military veterans may finally catch a break when it comes to receiving their benefits.

Military veterans may finally catch a break when it comes to receiving their benefits.

Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey has launched a lawmaker task force to put an end to backlogged claims at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

About two thirds of claims are backlogged.

Casey says that's inexcusable.

The problem has existed for many years but Casey says veterans can't wait much longer.

"We have to deal with it today because that problem will become even worse," he said. "It will be exacerbated when you have all of our fighting men and women back from Afghanistan."

About 60,000 U.S. troops are still in Afghanistan.

Most if not all of them are expected to return home next summer as part of the U.S. withdrawal from that country.

Casey says he hopes his task force can eliminate the backlog in the next two years.
