A Lehigh County man has been jailed on homicide charges after police said he dragged his wife to the basement of their home and held her there against her will.
Carol Albright died of her injuries at 1:11 a.m. Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, according to the Lehigh County coroner's office. Her death was ruled a homicide following an autopsy.
Police were called to 7109 Herber Rd. in Lowhill Township around 2 p.m. Wednesday for a 911 call.
Troopers determined that James Albright dragged his wife, Carol, 54, by the arm to the basement of the house and restrained her there.
According to a police affidavit, James Albright, 55, made arrangements for his wife to enter or interview a rehabilitation center in Allentown and tried to make her go around 8 a.m. Wednesday, but she refused to go.
Albright said he went to a chiropractic appointment at 10:45 a.m., then the bank and returned home. He tried to get her to go again, and she cursed at him, and he said, "Then I lost it, end of story," police said.
He then dragged her to the basement, where he used plastic zip ties to restrain her to a support beam, police said.
When paramedics arrived at the scene, Carol Albright told them she was sleeping when her husband grabbed her by the hand and dragged her into the basement. She said her husband kicked her once in the abdomen and twice in the back, police said.
She was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where she died of her injuries.
In a police interview, James Albright said he grabbed her by the neck and choked her and didn't remember if he kicked her, but did drag her down the stairs.
Albright has been charged with homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and harassment. He was committed to the Lehigh County Prison without bail.
The autopsy showed the cause of death was blunt force injuries to the body.
The death is being investigated by state police, the Lehigh County coroner's office and the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.
