EASTON, Pa. -

CareerFORCE serves economically disadvantaged and at-risk youth who are 21 years old or younger and who reside in Lehigh or Northampton County.

This community-based program supports youth who have either dropped out of high school or who have earned a high school diploma, however, do not have employable skills or a career direction.

All program funding has been granted through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and managed by the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board (WIB).

The Boys and Girls Club of Easton will be hosting an information session on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 from 12-3 p.m. at 210 Jones Houston Way in Easton, Pa. A program overview and eligibility requirements will be reviewed. For further information call 610-841-0389.

CareerFORCE utilizes an individualized, hands-on approach to learning and career exploration, states a release from the organization. Instilling self-confidence, increasing academic and professional readiness are primary goals. Participants will also be exposed to higher education options. Professional work experiences and employment opportunities will also be offered after a participant has completed career and soft skills training. The program will simulate a work environment where he/she is actively engaged and empowered to create their own future.

Local employers are asked to contact CareerFORCE to learn more about hiring a well-prepared young adult or offering their business as a work site. Wages for work-site employees are paid through the WIA funds, however, funds are limited.

While assessing a participants skills and interests, CareerFORCE will also utilize the expertise of local professionals who will support the participants’ efforts. Interested professionals will become part of HELPING 100, whose support will include: Presenting on topics related to their expertise; facilitating small group discussions or mentoring a participant.
