People in a convenience store in Berks County got quite a scare when a car crashed right through the front window.
The plywood stands as a reminder of the accident after an 85-year old woman slammed through the E-Z Shoppe around 4:30 p.m. Friday. The driver says she must have stepped on the gas instead of the brake.
"I was just surprised. I do not know how it happened. First the door came wreck and then the car was full speed," said store employee Rashmi Patel.
Workers inside the E-Z Shoppe on Lancaster Avenue in Shillington were shocked when a car came roaring through the front window.
"It sounded like a crash and I saw a car went right in here and hit the wall on the other side of the store," said store employee Ashish Patel.
The driver behind the wheel was an 85-year old woman.
"I am fine. I was not going that fast," said driver Gloria.
Gloria did not want to provide her last name, but says she remembers seeing some kids near the store and one on a skateboard.
"I looked at him and next thing I know I am going through the thing," said Gloria.
Within seconds her car slammed through the front glass sending store merchandise flying.
"I got my gatorade, pepsi, everything there stored for the holidays and she just blew it out," said Patel.
Emergency Crews put plastic up where the window was shattered. The vehicle only had minor damage to the windshield and Gloria drove home after the crash.
"I am fine. I feel ok. I am just glad it was not any worse than it was," said Gloria.
"I was hoping she was ok considering the looks of this store. So I am just glad that no was in the way and no one got hurt," said witness Robert Smith.
Thankfully no one was injured. The company now has to call its insurance company to work on getting the window replaced.
