Boy with rare disease needs urgent kidney transplant

Aidan Conover is a little boy fighting a big health battle.
The 8-year-old Northampton County boy needs a kidney sooner than he thought.
A month ago, he was happy, hoping Santa would bring him some cowboy boots. A month later he has the boots but not what he really needs.
"I'm getting both of my kidney's taken out," said Aidan who suffers from a rare kidney disease called FSGS.
Since we first met Aidan on Dec. 7, his kidney function has gone from 30 percent to 15 percent.
Next week, he'll go to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia for surgery and then dialysis.
"They are going to do the hemodialysis catheter or the pd catheter. We are hoping they are going to do the pd pone so we can stay home and do it at night," said Aidan's mom, Bobbi Conover, adding that it's possible Aidan may have to go to CHOP three times a week for dialysis.
Aidan is hoping he won't have to wait too long for a transplant.
"Please share a kidney with me," said Aidan.
People can live healthy lives with one kidney, so the family is hoping someone who is a match will see his story and step forward.
"They have to be evaluated by a hospital who does transplants, and then they would make a determination if, number one, if they are healthy enough to be a donor, they would do testing, determine if they are healthy," said Howard Nathan, president and CEO of Gift of Life donor program.
For more information about how you can help Aidan or one of the other 92,000 people in the United States who are waiting for a kidney, you can call 800-DONORS1 or contact CHOP.
