Boy thrives after being seriously hurt by car

The simple task of cracking an egg is a monumental achievement for Luke Hartrum.
"Of all my children if this happened to anyone else but Luke, I don't think they would have survived," mother of 5 Lori Hartrum said.
In June of 2007, while playing with his twin brother Logan, Luke was hit by a car along Northampton County's Weaversville Road. Doctors gave the then 6 year-old little chance to survive.
Luke did and as a 2009 therapy session we were at showed his spirit soared. In December of 2010 Luke showed us more signs of his improvement and inner strength.
Today there's this:
"Omelet," Luke said.
Luke can speak. His first words were I love you Mom.
I begged for years to have him speak and tell me what's on his mind, what's going on inside his brain. Now that he does, I have to say be quiet Luke. Right?" Lori said as she smiled a Luke.
Luke in many ways is a typical soon to be 13 year-old. This Carbon County kid loves the guitar and has won awards for Special Olympics and is an honor role student.
A few weeks ago Lori and Luke donated a special needs van. The very same van donated to them several years before.
"Knows he used to walk, knows he could ride a bike. He says he wishes he could do the same but accepts this is who he is right now," Lori said.
Now this boy who has already accomplished so much has another fight.
Luke has 64% scoliosis and needs invasive back surgery.
However Lori who has her own health issues says there's no doubt "Uncle Luke", he loves holding his newborn niece, will bounce back and not take this latest challenge lying down.
"He's inspiring me everyday to be strong, keep moving forward and never give up," she said.
