BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A woman was arrested for cutting her boyfriend's ring finger with a large kitchen knife as he tried to take it away from her during an argument, officials said.

Yania Rivera-Ortiz sliced Luis Resto-Martinez's finger at about 3:50 p.m. Sunday in their apartment at 424 Pierce St., Bethlehem, officials said.

Resto-Martinez was confronted by Rivera-Ortiz holding a 10-inch knife as he opened a bedroom door, and fearing that she was going to stab him, grabbed at the knife with his left hand, officials said.

Resto-Martinez had locked himself in the bedroom and was packing up his things after an argument with his girlfriend, officials said.

Rivera-Ortiz struck her boyfriend in the head and on his body several times before the altercation ended, officials said.

Rivera-Ortiz, 28, was arraigned on assault charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 26.
