BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

The current mayor of Bethlehem is saluting a man who paved the way before him.

Mayor John Callahan dedicated a wall at Main and Market streets to former Mayor Gordon Mowrer.

Mowrer served as mayor of the Christmas City from 1974 through 1978, and again in the 80s.

Mayor Callahan credited Mowrer with transforming the city into what it is today, and Mowrer joked that he was just happy to be at Tuesday's event.

"I'm not dead yet. At least I got to see it while I was alive. Some people, you wait until your dead before they honor you or do something like that," said Mowrer.

Easton Mayor Sal Panto and several other community leaders were on hand for the dedication.
