BOSTON -

Emotion fueled runners at Boston Marathon on Monday.

Extra security was on hand following last year's bombings near the race's finish line. The attack left three people dead and hundreds more hurt.

This year, police could be seen on every corner, and bomb-sniffing dogs were on the street. There were even security checkpoints near the finish line.

Todd Buchannan, of Spring Township, said the crowd's support kept him going.

"It's incredible," Buchannan said. "You wouldn't believe the people out there throughout he whole course, twice as many as last year."

Several other runners from Berks County were among the 36,000 runners this year.
