Bear up a tree in Carbon Co.

JIM THORPE, Pa. -

Traffic in Jim Thorpe backed up this afternoon as curious motorists did their best to catch a glimpse of a bear stuck in a tree along Route 209.

The black bear climbed into a tree along the highway at about 12:17 p.m., according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Motorists were seen slowing down and even stopping to get a look at the bear.

At about 4:20 p.m., the bear climbed down from the tree. Game Commission officials chased the bear along the embankment and back into the woods. It was last seen along the waterline of a nearby creek.

There were no apparent injuries to the bear or any humans, according to the Game Commission.
