Are you keeping your resolution?

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Every year millions of people start the new year off with a resolution or perhaps more than one.

But many of those new goals don’t even last until summer.

According to national statistics, about 45% of Americans make New Year's resolutions.

Folks came into 2013 wanting to enjoy life to the fullest, spending less, and getting organized.

But by far the number one resolution is to lose weight.  Every January, gym memberships swell and locations are flooded with a new crowd.

"All the machines are busy and you can't get on anything," said Floyd Charles.  "It's always packed for the first like three months and then it goes back to normal."

New Year's resolutions are in full effect.  And for many that means shedding a few pounds and hitting the gym.

"My resolution is to get fit," shared Joe Fromhartz.

"To just keep coming to the gym," said Wendy Charles.  "And lose the baby weight."

"To lose weight and have less stress," added Joanne Oswald.

Whether they're year-round gym members pumping it up a notch, or workout newbies, everyone we spoke with says they are determined to see their resolution through.

"I've been coming pretty much three to four times a week and pretty much just eating right, lots of water," smiled Oswald.  "Just got to keep going."

"I've been coming everyday instead of like 4 times a week and I just want to get back  to where I was, where I fit all the clothes in the closet," laughed Charles.

A recent study by the University of Scranton found only 8% of people succeed in achieving their resolution.  A reality most we met says they will make.

"I think it's hard," said Emily Bryk.  "But I think if you have the willpower just to stick with it it's totally possible."

Experts say the best way to stick with your resolution is to make small changes and don't set your expectations too high.
