ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Allentown is teaming up with some private companies to give another neighborhood a good sprucing up.

Mayor Ed Pawlowski on Monday announced plans for a facade grant program for property owners on Hamilton Street, near the Neighborhood Improvement Zone.

The project is being funded by City Center Lehigh Valley and PPL.

Officials said improving the neighborhood's appearance will draw new residents and visitors, and hopefully, new business.

"We think this facade program will be a great stimulus in creating confidence in the investment community and business community to improve these properties and locate new businesses downtown," said J.B. Reilly, City Center Lehigh Valley.

The city earlier this month launched a similar facade program to improve properties in the West End Theater District.
