An Allentown city councilwoman is back home after a trying ordeal in South America.
Cynthia Mota was visiting family in Venezuela last month when she came down with the shingles. She had to be admitted to the hospital, where she underwent five blood transfusions, and Mota said what was happening outside the hospital only added to the stress of the situation.
"It was a horrible experience and also knowing what Venezuela is going through, you know, they also had their own election and it was very chaotic and I was in the middle of all that," Mota said.
Mota says she isn't going to let her illness get in the way of the upcoming primary election. She said she plans to campaign hard leading up to the big day on Tuesday.
