DEER LAKE, Pa. -

One man was killed and two others were injured in an accident on Route 61 in Schuylkill County early Thursday morning, state police said.

The accident, involving a tractor trailer and two cars, happened around 6 a.m. on Route 61 at Route 895 in Deer Lake.

Scott Bennett was driving south on Route 61 when his car was struck by a car traveling east on Route 895, said police, who noted that the impact pushed Bennett's car into a guiderail and then into the path of the tractor trailer.

Bennett, 33, of Frackville, died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the other car, David Schatz Jr., 44, of Schuylkill Haven, and the driver of the tractor trailer, John Hoover, 44, of Reading, suffered only minor injuries, police said.
