Accident knocks out power to 1,700 PPL customers in Lehigh County

Accident takes out pole

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. -

An accident early Tuesday left a bunch of Lehigh County residents in the dark.

Nearly 1,700 PPL customers were without electricity after an accident in South Whitehall Twp. knocked out service to the neighborhood.

Officials say a car hit a utility pole at the intersection of Brown Street and Mauch Chunk Road around 5:20 a.m., causing the outage.

There's no word on what caused  the accident or if anyone was injured.

Mauch Chunk Road is closed between Evangate Drive and Scherersville Road, north of Brown Street.
