Accident closes Route 222 near Kutztown; woman flown to hospital

Two people were injured in an accident that closed a stretch of Route 222 near Kutztown for several hours Monday.

Two people were injured in an accident that closed a stretch of Route 222 near Kutztown for several hours Monday.

The accident happened shortly after 7 a.m. when a northbound Jeep crossed over the center line and hit an oncoming tanker truck between Church and Grim roads in Maxatawny Township, state police said.

The woman who was driving the Jeep, Lisa Walker, was flown to a hospital. Walker, 43, of Kutztown, was last reported to be in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the tanker truck, Mitchell Brenner, 55, of Sinking Spring, was also hurt, but police had no information about the extent of his injuries.

Route 222 was closed between Church Road and Long Lane for more than seven hours.
