On Monday night, a substitute teacher in Phillipsburg who handed a Bible to a high school student was let go by the school board.
The board voted 8-0, with three abstaining and removed Walter Tutka from the substitute teacher list for the rest of the school year.
Officials said Tutka was asked by a student about a Bible verse he quoted in class three months ago. They said Tutka then handed the student a Bible, which officials say is a violation of school policy on religion.
Many people spoke in support of Tutka at the meeting.
On Tuesday, a Berks County middle school was placed on lock down after police say an eighth grader stabbed a classmate several times.
It happened at Wilson Southern Middle School in Spring Township.
Officials say the alleged attacker stabbed the student three times with a pocket knife.
They believe the altercation was sparked by a Facebook conversation.
The alleged attacker was in court on Wednesday and was placed in a detention facility. He is charged with criminal attempt homicide and aggravated assault.
The victim was hospitalized but released on Thursday and is doing well.
On Wednesday, a man was found guilty of murdering and robbing an elderly Phillipsburg woman for the second time.
Thor Frey was found guilty on all counts by a jury.
Frey was convicted three years ago, but granted a new trial.
Prosecutors say he helped murder Mary Bostian, 75, to steal a safe containing $25,000.
Frey said he was passed out drunk on Bostian's front yard and couldn't have done the crime.
He will be sentenced on March 1st.
And on Thursday, Reading Police made an arrest in a homicide that happened on New Year's Day.
Jesus Guillermo Rivera, 26, of Reading was arrested and charged with homicide.
Police say he's responsible for the deadly shooting in the 100 block of South 3rd street on January 1st.
Luis Medina, 21, was killed, and his brother was also shot, but survived.
