Week in Review

It's time now to take a look back at the stories making headlines this week in the 69 News week in review.

On Monday, a man wanted for murder in Puerto Rico is nabbed in Reading.

Police say 25-year-old Miguel Reyes Velez is being charged with murder for his alleged role in a homicide in July 2011 in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico.

Just a few months ago, Velez was arrested for allegedly falsifying documents to his brother hide from authorities. He was released at that time after posting bail.

He is facing extradition back to Puerto Rico.

Tuesday, two brothers are behind bars after being charged with three brutal killings.

In a case that stretches from Berks to Lehigh counties, police say all three murders happened as a result of a dispute a few hundred dollars in bogus drugs.

Prosecutors say Michael and Maurice Wilkens -- brothers with extensive criminal pasts -- are now charged in a double homicide in Reading which took place Dec. 4 of last year and the brutal killing of a woman who's burned body was found dumped on the side of the road in Salisbury Township, Lehigh County, just two days after Christmas.

According to court documents, the murder was over fake cocaine in exchange for $700.

Wednesday, Berks County remembers a young man who died a hero.

27 year-old Jarett Yoder of Brecknock Township and 34-year-old Matthew Ruffner of Harrisburg were killed when their helicopter went down in Afghanistan.

Both men were members of the 1st 104th attack reconnaissance battalion based at Fort Indiantown Gap.

Yoder graduated from Oley Valley High School in 2005 and was married just before he got deployed to Afghanistan in August.

Officials are still trying to figure out what caused the chopper to go down.

On Thursday, a Lehigh County woman is dead after allegedly being beaten -- and tied up -- by her own husband.

Police say it started as an argument. Then it turned violent.

Police say 55-year-old James Albright of Lowhill Township choked, kicked and tied up his wife Carol because she wouldn't go to rehab.

Albright is being charged with homicide.

Friday, the Allentown School District gave everyone a first glimpse of the uniforms set to be rolled out in September.

Three months ago the school board signed off on the plan to require uniforms for all students next year.

Uniforms include khakis, tucked in polos, pants, shorts and capris.

School leaders say the uniforms will save parents money, and they plan to work with anyone who has economic difficulties.
