4 armed men break into Monroe Co. home, demand money, police say
Police in the Poconos said a home invasion Monday night included shots being fired, and one of the burglars accidentally shot another.
Around 9:30 p.m. Pocono Mountain Regional police were sent to 462 Clearview Drive in Tobyhanna Twp., Monroe County, for a report of a robbery in progress.
When officers arrived, they found three residents at the home, and saw droplets of blood going from the house, to the porch and down the steps to the driveway.
One victim told police he was in his bedroom upstairs when he heard people moving about and yelling downstairs, and was heading to the door when he heard two gunshots and felt something hit him in the right forearm and hip.
Police saw where a projectile hit the victim's door, travelled through a mirror and hit the victim, and the bullet was on the floor.
Two other victims told police four men -- three armed with handguns and one with a crowbar -- entered the house and demanded money.
After pointing the guns at the victims, police said, the robbers fired several shots inside the house, and one of the robbers shot another, in the face or head area.
After the robber was shot, all of the thieves ran out of the house, police said.
The robbers only got away with the victims' cell phones.
When police contacted area hospitals, they learned a man--identified as 18-year-old Jehova Maldonado -- had entered Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg with a gunshot wound to the head.
Maldonado of Tobyhanna Twp., gave police a bogus address where he said he'd been shot, police said, and was not cooperating with questioning.
Police said Maldonado was identified as one of the robbers, and was arrested when he was released from the hospital.
Martin Ranko, 20, of Long Pond, was also identified as a robber, and was arrested at his home, police said.
According to police, the home invasion appears to be drug-related and the investigation continues. More arrests are pending.
