Charity Meatball Making

People at one local church were having a ball Thursday night -- a meatball, that is.

Workers were preparing 3,000 meatballs at Asbury United Methodist Church in South Whitehall Township. The church is hosting the WAEB Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Allentown Rescue Mission.

In fact, WAEB mainstay Bobbie Gunther Walsh was on hand Thursday to lend his special meatball recipe. Organizers say putting on this dinner is no small task.

"It takes two nights to make all the meatballs," said Rescue Mission director Gary Millspaugh. "We have to prepare them on Thursday and Friday.. get them ready.. roll them up.. and then we have to cook them.. and it does take us two nights -- Thursday and Friday -- until about midnight."

This is the 10th annual benefit dinner. It'll be held at the church on Saturday from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, but diners are encouraged to donate.
